Sawdey Solution Services extends our deepest condolences to our team member, Scott Powell—a Graphic Designer supporting our USEUCOM/NATO NIFC contract in the United Kingdom—and his family on the recent passing of his father-in-law, Colonel Faustin E. Wirkus, Jr., United States Marine Corps (Retired).
Col. Wirkus served as a Marine Corps helicopter pilot with two tours in Vietnam and retired after 25 years of distinguished service. His dedication and valor were recognized with 23 Gold Stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and numerous other medals throughout his career.
He was recently laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors—including an escort, firing party, bugler, marching element, full military band, and riderless horse. Over 60 Marines were present to pay tribute. The day was marked by rain—a fitting and symbolic honor for a Marine, as the Corps is the first amphibious branch of the U.S. military.
Col. Wirkus now rests near his father, Faustin E. Wirkus, Sr., who was also a Marine with a storied legacy of his own. We are grateful for their service, and we salute the enduring sacrifice of the Wirkus family.
